It is based on well known
principle of "Electrolytic Respirometry". In this method
exact quantity of Oxygen is supplied as per demand & the
oxygen required can be directly noted in mg / litre against
time. |
The BOD is a complex phenomenon. This instrument eliminates manual errors. The accuracy can be checked using Glucose Glutamic Acid as Standard. The results are withiną15% of theoretical expectations far better than Chemical Analysis.
|
The SPECTRALAB BOD Monitor is designed to measure the Oxygen uptake of a given Sample continuously. It consists of Cell Assembly and Electronics Unit & Magnetic Stirrer. The Sample is kept in continuous stirring to ensure constant absorption of Oxygen.

SHORTENING
OF ANALYSIS
TIME |
Bod is to be reported at 27oC, 3 days. However, with this instrument after studying routine samples the BOD can be predicted within 11/2 to 2 days by using prediction factor.

'SPECTRALAB' Microcontroller Based
BOD Monitor Model EM2 for Two Samples complete with Glassware
& Stirring Platform. |
The BOD is determined at 27oC for 3 days. Install the Cell Assembly along with Stirrer in the Standard BOD Incubator available in your Laboratory. The Stirrer supplied can be safely kept in the Incubator.
When it is desired to keep the instrument in an A.C. room instead of Incubator, ensure that the A.C. is running all the 24 Hours. Temperature correction in this case can be applied if the temperature remains fairly constant during the 24 Hours.

For better results Samples are diluted to bring the level of BOD less than 500 ppm. Dilution Factor can be entered to give final
BOD. |
As for any BOD measurement seed is required to initiate the process. Normally sewage is used, however any other acclamatized microorganism can be used. |
Large sample quantity - 1 Ltr. - gives a homogenous BOD Value. |
